YLANG YLANG COMPLETE OIL, MADAGASCAR

Latin Name:  Cananga odorata
Part of Plant: Flower
Country of Origin: Madagascar
Method of Production: Steam Distillation

Ylang Ylang essential oil is produced by the steam or water distillation of the freshly picked blossoms of the Cananga odorata tree.  A member of the Annonaceae botanical family, the Cananga tree is a tropical evergreen tree native to Asia.  This essential oil is unique in that it is split up into fractions at different times in the distillation process.  That results in different chemistry and aroma for each fraction of oil.  These fractions are known as Extra Superior, Extra, First, Second, Third, and lastly Complete which is a combination of fractions. The oil is popular for its use in perfumery and is one of the key ingredients in the legendary perfume Chanel No. 5.

Ylang Ylang essential oil blends well with most floral, wood, and citrus oils.  Due to its strong aroma, it is another oil that is best used as a small part of a blend.  It is popular in perfume blends, especially date night blends, that include Jasmine, Damiana, or Rose.  Also, try blending with oils like Lavender, Marjoram, Sandalwood, Cedarwood Patchouli, Orange, Frankincense, and Neroli for a calming and relaxing aroma to diffuse at the end of a long day.

Usage ideas:

  • Add a few drops of essential oils to a diffuser, cotton round, or a tissue.

  • Mix a few drops with an unscented liquid soap or bubble bath and add to the tub when filling.

For convenience on the go…

  • Properly dilute with your choice of carrier oils in a roller bottle.

  • Add up to a total of 15 drops of essential oils to a personal aromatic inhaler (aroma stick).
