Carrier Oil 101: Its Uses and Benefits



If you are looking to use essential oils topically, it is always best to combine them with carrier oils to safely apply them to your skin. Carrier oils can also be used alone, combined, or in DIY recipes like body sprays. Since there are a variety of carrier oils to choose from, you may want to use a certain carrier oil depending on your symptoms and preferences. How to Select the Carrier Oil You Need


There are many different carrier oils to choose from. Whether you are using them for aromatherapy, massage, skin care, or hair care you should consider the following:


Odor: Some carrier oils have a distinct odor. This may change the aroma when combined with essential oils.

Absorption: Your skin may absorb some oils better than others.

Skin Type: Some oils may irritate skin more than others depending on skin type.

Shelf Life: Some oils last longer than others, and/or will go rancid.



Fractionated coconut oil is the best choice for a carrier if used in massage blends as it never goes rancid, washes easily out of sheets and clothing, and it's the lightest of all the carrier oils so it can easily be used in any pump spray bottle. This oil is Kosher, food grade, completely edible, and commonly used in salad dressings and other food products.


How To Use: Coconut Oil is great for combining with essential oils for massages and aromatherapy. We recommend diluting at a 4:1 ratio.

Face Serum Recipe:

Combine the following ingredients in a small dropper bottle:

  • 10 drops Frankincense

  • 10 drops Tea Tree

  • 10 drops Lavender

  • 1 tsp Vitamin E Oil

  • Fill the rest of the bottle with half Jojoba Oil & Rosehip Oil
